So . . .
If an alien was flying by our planet and decided to eavesdrop on our airwaves, the alien’s first thought would be, “Holy shit! These people are insane!”
I don’t even know where to begin with what’s happening in the US and around the world. But perhaps a date of reference—should any curious reader stumble upon this post in the distant future, with enough curiosity to look up world events as of the time this is typed—the date is June 17, 2025. And there’s lots going on that makes the mind bend.
I need a distraction from the news cycle, the podcasts, the endless content creation—I’m not lost on the irony. All that to say . . .
I’m back on Substack, baby!
I know. I know. You didn’t miss me over the last year. But I’ll tell you what I’ve been up to, anyway.
I finished my second novel, titled The Young Woman, The Farmer and The Beast. It’s a story I’m very proud of, the fourth writing project I started last year, 2024, and the only one I finished. The unfinished projects . . . Well, what type of so-called creative would I be if I finished everything I started?
A bit about The Young Woman, The Farmer and The Beast: Riku is a sixteen year old young woman living next to a neighborly farmer when a Beast settles in the forest near the neighborhood and some unfortunate events occur in succession. My editor called the work a modern fantasy. I never imagined I’d be interested in writing fantasy. So I was really caught by surprise with this one. Matter of fact, I’m even more surprised that my next project is another fantasy. I have no idea how I arrived here. Science fiction and good old traditional drama are my genres of choice. Anyway, you can find the novel by clicking below:
Now I can exhale. A dear buddy of mine has been hounding me to start promoting this. I imagine this introductory post counts as a promotion. Muhaha!
Which brings me to the name of this Substack: Random Material. If you hang around these parts you’ll read notes and fragments of ideas, good and bad, and considerations on random things and subject matters. Might this be a break enough from the anxiety-inducing news cycle and a world of content creation too laborious to sort through? Who knows?
Welcome to Random Material! I have zero idea what I will come up with next.
I hope you stick around.
Welcome back!
